Jeremiah, Part 14

Transcendent and Immanent

This episode looks at Jeremiah 23:9-40. It features a particularly fetching view of an HVAC vent.

Primary commentaries used for this episode:
Commentary on Jeremiah by Theodore Laetsch
The New Interpreter’s Bible Commentary, volume IV

According to the online Oxford Languages resource, when the word transcendent is used of God it means “existing apart from and not subject to the limitations of the material universe.” I like Paul Tillich’s definition, “wholly other.”

Also according to the Oxford resource, immanent means, when used of God, “permanently pervading and sustaining the universe.”
