Life or Death
If the object of your worship is dead or dying, the results are predictable
"The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak;
they have eyes, but do not see;
they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
Those who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them." (Psalm 135-15-18)
The psalmist says that the people who make gods or idols end up as dead as the idols. That's because dead or dying things are incapable of giving life to anyone or anything.
That's not just true of the wooden, metal, or stone objects that people have worshiped through the centuries. It's true of anything people might make their god--from family members to spouses, from money to status. None of them can overcome the hard facts that we, like them, will die. If you worship the dead or things destined for death, you die, even before you breathe your last breath in this world.
But the opposite is true, too. If you worship the living God Who, in Jesus, God the Son, has become one of us, died on a cross, and risen from death, you receive life from the only God Who can give life to the dead. He did it from the first, when He gave humanity life from the dead elements of the world. He does it again in Jesus Christ.
In the God revealed to us in Jesus Christ, we meet a deity fully capable of giving us new life, the forgiveness of sin, eternity, and resurrection. Jesus says, "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." (John 6:40)
This is Jesus' promise to you. In Him, all your sins are forgiven, and you have eternal life with God. You can trust in Him.
