Today, we had an early lunch with my internship supervising pastor and his wife.
They don't come any better than Jim and Jan.
Jim taught me a lot about being a pastor, a husband and father, a human being, and a Christian. He's never met a stranger, but there's nothing loud or self-referential in his gregariousness. He's probably the best listener I've ever known. This is mostly seen in the amount of time he's willing to spend with people. Even when he was a busy parish pastor, he visited with people, whatever deadlines he might be facing.
Jim is also low-key, not the kind of person you might think, at first consideration maybe, would accomplish much. But, I can't tell you how many ministries he has started through the years that have helped people in need and have also drawn people to Christ. He's always looking for ways to help people and meet others' needs. Even now at 83 years old!
Jan has a servant's heart too. She has always been a good friend to Ann and to me. Her faith in Christ has always been central to her life. Like Jim, she has a great sense of humor and often tells good stories on herself.
God has blessed me with many good people in my life, who have pointed me to Christ, encouraged me to relax in His grace and revel in the freedom Christ gives me to love God and love others, certain that no matter how the world may react to me, as long as I'm following Jesus, I'm moving in the right direction.
Thank you, Jim and Jan!
